Program Information:

  • This program prepares students for an occupation in the professional field of neurodiagnostic technology (EEG Technology).
  • Neurodiagnostic Technology is the scientific field devoted to the recording and study of the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system pathways. Neurodiagnostic Technologists conduct tests or studies such as electroencephalography (EEG), polysomnography (PSG), nerve conduction studies (NCS) and intraoperative monitoring (IOM).
  • The first semester of this program begins in August and this applied science program of study must be taken in its entirety to meet degree requirements.
  • Students are involved in approximately 640 contact hours of clinical experience during the two-year program. National Certification as a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist requires graduates to pass the examination administered by ABRET – Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation.
  • Career cluster includes: Neurodiagnostic (EEG) Technologist in a hospital, clinic, research facility, physicians’ office and travel assignments. Opportunities for advancement include add-on credentials, clinical or didactic instructors, remote monitoring, sales, supervisory and administrative positions.
  • Neurodiagnostic students must earn a minimum grade of C in all required NDT and BIO courses to remain the program. Students who earn below a C in any of these courses will be dropped from the program.
  • Students have the right to apply for readmission to the program based on space availability. Only one readmission is allowed.
  • Portions of this program are provided at St. John’s Hospital Campus, 800 East Carpenter Street, Springfield. Those portions include the required program courses.
  • This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for Education in Neurodiagnostic Technology (CoA-NDT).
  • Application and admission to the Neurodiagnostic Technology program is conducted on a limited enrollment basis and is a separate procedure from application and admission to LLCC. Chapter 112, Section 103-17, of the Illinois Public Community College Act requires that whenever enrollment in a program must be restricted because of space limitations, a college must give preference to district residents. Consequently, admissions to this program for students who live outside of LLCC District 526 is based on space availability and applicant pool. 
  • Students must have a current physical, CPR certification, show proof of immunizations and pass a drug screen and fingerprint background check prior to the start of the program.
  • This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for Education in Neurodiagnostic Technology, 25400 U.S. Highway 19 North, Suite 158, Clearwater, FL 33763, 727-210-2350, www.caahep.org

Admission Requirements:

  1. Attend a mandatory information session given by the program director.
  2. Submit the LLCC admission application.
  3. Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  4. Have a 2.5 GPA or higher for all previous college courses or be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate . Have transcripts sent to the LLCC Records office for all college courses. 
  5. Submit the Neurodiagnostic Technology program application with the assistance of a Health Professions Student Success Advisor.
