General Purpose Degree

Associate in General Education

The Associate in General Education is not a transfer degree. It is intended for those students who wish to earn an associate degree with no specific major or pattern of courses.

 

Degree Requirements

Associate in General Education Degree (60 semester hours minimum)

Group I: Communication – 6 semester hours

EGL 103 and EGL 106 or EGL 101 and EGL 102 are required.

 

Group II: Social science – 6 semester hours

A. Must take either POS 101 (3 semester hours) or POS 201 (3 semester hours)

B. Social science courses include anthropology, economics, GEG 102, history (except HIS 101 and HIS 102), political science, psychology, and sociology

 

Group III: Humanities and fine arts – 3 semester hours

Humanities and fine arts courses include art, film, HIS 101 or HIS 102, humanities, literature,  music, philosophy, theater, and world languages (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish)

 

Group IV: Science and mathematics – 6 semester hours

Science and mathematics courses include astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physical geography, physical science, and physics

 

Group V: Electives – 39 semester hours

The remaining semester hours must be completed in a student success advisor-approved program.
