Applied Sciences Programs of Study
One of the primary missions of Lincoln Land Community College is to provide residents of the college district with the opportunity for education in vocational and technical fields. Applied sciences programs are designed to prepare students for immediate employment as highly skilled workers and technicians.
In a dynamic approach to applied sciences education, the college maintains advisory committees for each of the applied sciences programs. The committees, whose members include specialists from business and industry, laypeople, and representatives of the college, help LLCC remain responsive to district employment needs. Recommendations for new career programs, courses and training approaches are within the scope of the committees’ assistance. The result is up-to-date training programs in vocational and technical skills and graduates who are well prepared to meet employer expectations.
Credentials Offered
Associate in Applied Science
The Associate in Applied Science degree prepares students for employment in career-technical fields. Programs emphasize applied skills and workforce preparation while also incorporating general education requirements.
Many Associate in Applied Science programs have prescribed courses; therefore, course selection within general education groups may be determined by the specific program of study. Students should consult their program requirements or student success advisor for details.
Certificates
In addition to Associate in Applied Science programs, students may earn the following certificates:
- Certificate of Achievement – programs of 30 or more credits
- Certificate of Completion – programs of 29 credits or less
Within applied sciences curricula are courses that may also be taken individually to upgrade vocational and technical skills.
Completion and Outcomes for Associate in Applied Science Students
Associate in Applied Science degree programs provide immediate employment skills for students completing a degree. In addition to entering the workforce, applied science graduates may pursue a bachelor's degree related to their specialty at another college or university.
Many bachelor's degree-granting colleges and universities offer capstone programs that allow associate in applied science graduates to complete a bachelor's degree with an additional 60 semester hours of junior- and senior-level coursework. In all cases, when a student expects to transfer and complete an additional degree at another institution, the process must be planned carefully to ensure a smooth transition.
Students seeking information about capstone programs, transfer requirements or bachelor's degree options after completing an Associate in Applied Science degree should contact their student success advisor and the appropriate department dean at LLCC.
