FLM 101 Introduction to Film Art

The course is an introduction to film as an art form. The course examines the aesthetic, production, and cultural elements of filmmaking, including genre conventions, movement, mise en scene, sound, cinematography, acting, and editing. Activities and discussion will focus on analyzing how technical and artistic components of filmmaking generate meaning and situate films as artistic cultural products. Discussion of selected films and application of filmmaking techniques form a major focus of class activities. R, 11 (2 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours) IAI: F2 908
