Transfer Program

Colleague Code: AS.BIOL

Curriculum Code: ASD 101

Program Information:

  • This program is appropriate for students interested in further study of biology at a four-year institution.
  • Transferable to most colleges and universities
  • Since program requirements vary among the four-year schools, the above courses are only suggested guidelines. Students are strongly encouraged to explore the specific program requirements of the four-year schools they are considering for their transfer, as they make their course selections for their first two years of study at LLCC. Additionally, LLCC advisors, faculty members, and deans are also sources of helpful advice.
  • Students who are planning on teaching in a secondary school are required to have a specified ACT score or to take an alternative test (determined by the State of Illinois) prior to transferring to an upper-division institution. Students should contact their transfer institution for more specific information associated with possible tests required for advancement in that program and for more information associated with this.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE – If you intend to complete the first half of a sequenced science offering {such as CHE 201/CHE 202 or PHY 101/PHY 102} at LLCC, and the second half at your transfer school, you run the risk of having to repeat the course at your transfer school, IF the content split in the sequence at LLCC varies enough from the content split at the transfer school. Therefore, it might be in your best interest to finish out the sequence or not start the sequence before transferring.
  • Pre-Dental, Pre-Veterinary Students – A regular program of study in one of the established academic fields is generally recommended as best preparation. Although a major in any academic field is usually acceptable, majors in biology and chemistry are especially suitable since major requirements in these fields overlap with pre-professional requirements. Students considering taking the MCAT should take PHI 204 or PHI 205 as their humanities course, PSY 101 and SOC 101 as their social science selections, and PHY 101 as one of their program support courses.
  • Natural Resources Students – Students interested in Natural Resources Management should consider taking POS 101, or ECO 110 as one of their social science selections and BIO 230, BIO 240 and/or BIO 209 as their program support courses.
